Understanding your dental insurance.
Clear answers. No surprises. Just what you need to feel confident.
Dental insurance can make it easier to access the care you need – but only when you understand how it works. At our clinics, we aim to take the guesswork out of your coverage. Whether your plan comes through your employer, was purchased on your own, or is something you are still looking into, we are here to help you sort it out. That way, you can arrive at your appointment knowing what is covered, what is not, and what to expect next.

How dental insurance works at our clinics.
In Canada, dental treatment is not included under provincial health coverage. That means most patients either pay directly out of pocket or rely on private insurance. If you do carry insurance, your plan will likely cover a share of your treatment costs – though how much depends on the details of your policy.
At most of our clinics, insurance is processed through a method known as payment by assignment. Here is how it works: your clinic submits your insurance information ahead of time to find out how much of your treatment will be paid for. This gives you a clear picture of what your plan covers and what your share will be before any treatment begins.
Common services such as checkups, cleanings, and fillings are often covered at 80%, leaving you responsible for the remaining 20%. For more complex work like crowns or bridges, coverage is typically split closer to 50/50 between you and your plan. Keep in mind these figures will vary based on your specific policy.
It is important to know that clinics are legally required to collect the patient portion of any bill. Waiving co-payments is classified as insurance fraud under Canadian law, and all providers must follow this rule. You will typically sign a straightforward claim form that outlines the services completed and what your plan is expected to cover.
If you do not have insurance, there are still options available to you. Many of our clinics offer flexible financing or in-house payment arrangements. Your dental team can also suggest treatment alternatives that better fit your financial situation.
Each clinic in our network is independently owned, which means policies can differ from one location to another. Some accept a broad range of insurance providers, while others may have specific arrangements in place.
